Having many dogs come and go in my life, no dog’s absence has affected me quite like Sadie’s. Losing her is what pushed me into helping the forgotten dogs on the streets of Fresno, California. I began gathering dog houses and placing them wherever I found strays, leaving food and water so they had at least a small measure of shelter and comfort.
It didn’t take long to see we had a real crisis on our hands, so I took it a step further. I fostered a couple of puppies from a local shelter. After just a few days of caring for them, it was painfully hard to take them back. They were lined up to be adopted, but only one found a home. I couldn’t leave the lone pup behind in the shelter, so I brought her back with me.
From that day forward, I’ve been committed to helping dogs in need. Some of our dogs come straight off the streets. Others must be pulled from neglectful or abusive situations. All of them deserve safety, dignity, and a real home.
